Complex trauma, dissociation and Borderline Personality Disorder: Work with integration errors.
Abstract.
A history of childhood injury and ongoing dissociation are common among customers with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Symptoms occurring in patients with complex PTSD or dissociative disorders (OSDD or DID) have a significant overlap with BPD, such as self injury, suicide supply, hearing voices, self-esteem and state of consciousness, amnesia, depersonalisation, chronic dysregulation, relational destabilization and phobic avoidance of traumatic experiences. While many approaches focus on symptom management in BPD, we will describe a practical trauma-based approach that emphasizes the need to identify and work with the individual's unintegrated internal structure organization as a means of addressing the causes of the symptoms.
